ESTIMATOR
1.0 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
1.1 The basic function of the Estimator is to provide and coordinate full estimating services on all types of contracts.
2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
2.1 The Estimator reports to and is directly accountable to the Chief Estimator.
3.0 REQUIREMENTS
3.1Education
3.1.1 Preferred: Bachelors Degree in engineering or equivalent field
3.3 Experience
3.3.1 Required: 2 to 8 years estimating, cost control and engineering experience.
3.3.2 Preferred: 4 or more years estimating, cost control and engineering experience.
3.4 Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
3.4.1 Position requires thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.
3.4.2 Position requires the ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts.
3.4.3 Position requires the ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential.
3.4.4 Position requires the ability to prepare complex proposals without supervision.
3.5 Physical Requirements
3.5.1 The physical requirements may be stressful even thought a majority of the time is sitting. Body movements of turning the head and torso, bending and flexing the arms, wrists, and fingers are required. The senses required are being able to see and hear and having full power of speech.
3.6 Mental
3.6.1 Must be able to work under stressful deadline situations.
3.6.2 Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
3.6.3 Must be able to comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources. Advanced computer skills are desired.
4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS
4.1Work will be in a climate-controlled office with some time spent in the field.
5.0 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
5.1 Review and incorporate data from various sources to prepare estimate.
5.2 Review proposed specification and drawings for estimate.
5.3 Maintain back-up figures for all estimates.
5.4 Track awarded contracts.
6.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures.
6.2 Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
6.3 Provide complete conceptual (on bidwork) and final estimating input on complex projects.
6.4 Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
6.5 Insure all work documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
6.6 Assist contracting department during preparation of inquires and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.
6.7 Track awarded contracts as required – may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit; procuring material, etc.
6.8 Perform additional assignments pre supervisor’s direction.
7.0 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
7.1 Incorporates data from various sources to prepare estimate.
7.2 Review specification and drawing thoroughly.
7.3 Maintains back-up files for all estimates.
7.4 Tracks awarded contracts.
